EMIAH, Siren – Review

EMIAH is a Scottish Pop/R&B vocalist and songwriter. EMIAH has worked in a varied field of genres including House, EDM, RnB and Hip Hop. EMIAH’s influences include Whitney Houston, Usher and Destiny’s Child and you can hear traces of each artist in her music. EMIAH uses these classic sounds and infuses them with a modern freshness aligning with today’s artists, Kehlani, Khalid and Zara Larsson.
In 2018, EMIAH collaborated with fellow Scottish songwriter and producer Stuart McInnes (known professionally as Esdaile State). 2018 saw the rise of EMIAH’s online presence with a 10 part “Music Mondays” series on YouTube. The summer saw her sharing the bill with music legends such as Gabrielle, JAMES and Texas. She then co-wrote and was featured on a charity album released to help raise funds for the SSPCA, supported X-factor/The Voice finalist Saara Aalto (Warner Music) and finished the year off with a Christmas Tour of Scotland. 2019 has already seen an early in the year release of two singles “Fall In Love” (with Nexeri) and “Lovin’ Me” (with Edward Skera). EMIAH then went on to support BeCharlotte (Sony), The Hoosiers (RCA), Rothwell and Wrabel (RCA, Pink) – in which Pink herself made an appearance. This past summer afforded EMIAH the opportunity to showcase at prestigious music industry events XpoNorth and a slot at this year’s Belladrum Festival alongside acts such as Jess Glynne, Lewis Capaldi and Chvrches. A new single “Siren” just released on September 6th, featuring Panuma and Tokyo Project.
“Siren” is taken from the Greek mythological creature. The lore is based in stories of sailors who were lured and then shipwrecked by the sirens. Emiah likens the idea to being trapped in a relationship in which you have no control over your feelings. Her lyrics are fiercely filled with imagery and laden with strong hooks. The music is atmospheric and features a collaboration with Panuma and Tokyo Project. “Siren,” is tied strongly to EMIAH’s voice, which is hauntingly crystalized with penetrating confidence. Ripe with an infectious melody you are instantly drawn into the beat and her memorably crafted lyrics will entrance the listener.
